Online Physiotherapy for Neck Pain and Cervical Spondylosis
"Cervical spondylosis" on a scan describes age-related changes in the neck that are very common and often painless. Neck pain usually comes from how the neck is moving and being loaded — long hours over a laptop or phone, for example — and that responds well to exercise.
Common signs
- Neck pain and stiffness, worse after screen time
- Pain spreading to the shoulder blade or upper back
- Headaches that start at the back of the head
- Less movement when turning your head or looking up
- Pins and needles into the arm — which needs nerve checks
What usually causes it
- Long periods with the head forward over a screen
- Weak deep neck and upper back muscles
- Stress, tension and an awkward sleeping position
- Age-related disc and joint changes
- A sudden jolt, such as whiplash in a car accident
How the online consultation works
What Dr. Bajpai checks on the video call
- Neck movement in every direction
- Your actual desk, laptop or sofa setup, on camera
- Deep neck and shoulder-blade muscle tests
- Nerve checks if symptoms travel into the arm
- Screening for dizziness or other symptoms that need a doctor first
A typical treatment plan
- 1. Weeks 1–2
Ease
Gentle range-of-movement exercises, heat, and changes to your workstation.
- 2. Weeks 2–6
Strengthen
Deep neck, upper back and shoulder-blade strengthening.
- 3. Week 6 onwards
Maintain
A short daily routine and screen habits that stop the pain coming back.
How long it takes: Most neck pain improves noticeably within a few weeks of regular exercise and workstation changes. Long-standing pain can take 6–8 weeks or more.
What you can do at home
- Raise your screen so the top is roughly at eye level
- Take a short movement break every 30–45 minutes
- Keep the neck moving gently rather than holding it still
- Use one supportive pillow that keeps your neck level
When to get urgent or in-person care
- Sudden severe headache, dizziness, double vision, or difficulty speaking or swallowing — emergency care now
- Weakness or clumsiness in the hands, or unsteady walking
- Neck pain after a significant fall or accident
- Fever with a stiff neck

Questions about neck pain and cervical spondylosis
Can cervical spondylosis be cured?
The age-related changes on the scan do not reverse, but they are common in people with no pain at all. Physiotherapy targets the pain and stiffness, and most people get back to comfortable movement.
Should I wear a cervical collar?
Usually not for long. A collar is rarely needed for ordinary neck pain, and wearing one for weeks tends to increase stiffness. Gentle movement is better.
Will a new pillow fix my neck pain?
A pillow that keeps your neck level can help you sleep more comfortably, but it is rarely the whole answer. Daytime posture, screen breaks and strengthening matter more.
Is online physiotherapy suitable for neck pain?
Yes, and it has one advantage: Dr. Bajpai can see your real desk and screen setup on camera, which is where most neck pain starts.
What the evidence says
- 37 clinical trials, 4,288 participants. Telerehabilitation improved every clinical outcome studied versus control (SMD 0.24-0.91), and when compared specifically against face-to-face rehabilitation the difference was not statistically significant — i.e. comparable, not superior. It was also USD 89.55 cheaper per person. Molina-Garcia et al., 2023
